Taking advantage of the presence of surgeons from several centers performing limb replantation, after the end of the 1st Meeting of the Polish Orthoplastic Society "Orthoplastic surgery", a meeting was held on the issues of the functioning of the replantation service, in particular replantation in children. It was attended by the National Consultant in the field of pediatric surgery, professor Janusz Bohosiewicz. Referring to the issues raised during this meeting, TVN journalists conducted an interview with the participants on the practical aspects of the functioning of the replantation service. Conclusions in the form of a short report entitled "There is a gentlemen's agreement - there is to be a permanent duty" was presented in the Fakty program, which was broadcast on TVN on March 15, 2023 (the report is available at: https://fakty.tvn24.pl/oprezentj-online,60 /is-a-gentlemen-s-agreement-has-to-be-permanent-duty-ministry-of-health-noted-a-problem,1139837.html )
According to the report, the Ministry of Health plans to establish a "central replantation centre". The Management Board of the POS is of the opinion that there should be at least several replantation centers on duty in Poland during the day so that they can supply patients and then continue their treatment regionally. These centers could perform a consultative function and, in addition to replantation, also perform extensive multi-tissue reconstructions, so as to use the potential of the doctors working there. The Society is ready for substantive discussions with the Ministry of Health and plans to prepare a written statement on this subject. Let's hope that in the future, patients with severe limb injuries will be able to count on fast and qualified help, just like patients in other European countries and developed countries of the world. Estimated Poland population with immigrants: 41.6 mln (2023)
